Lewis Model

It has been easy for me to adapt to this country, but what if a student from Norway wants to go to an exchange to Colombia ?

While I was learning about behavior in differents societies I found «the lewis model» which explains that humans can be divided into 3 categories Linear-active, Multi-active and Reactive. During my life as a psychology I had worked in different countries, most of them in latin america, and as a latin man I have learned how my culture works. Colombia is a country that is included in the category of multi-active, we can do many things at once, we don’t do our activities based on a schedule, on the other hand, Norway is a liner-active country they do implement the schedule, they are more organize and have a limited body language showing how these countries have opposite behaviors.

Even though the first few days the adaptation can be difficult because the way of act of these countries are a little bit different I think the student can adapt quickly to way of life Barranquilla because the citizens try their best to also adapt to other people’s needs. Barranquilla and Norway are in opposites sides of the model so that can affect the student for a while and it can be hard and may affect the order and the routing to the Norway student but at the same time he can find a lot of Liner-active people in the city so he can enjoy the experience in his own way. Also it needs to be emphasized that the lewys model is quite strict, not every single person in Barranquilla have a multi-active behavior and the same can happen with the people of Norway.
